Rachael Davis

Artist/Artistic Director/Portrait Artist

Education: MFA, Colorado State University

Rachael is a previous Zonta Club Member and has been partnering with Patti since early 2014 to create the concept and art process for this project.

I met Patti Smith many years ago through a single Mom mentoring program, her Zonta Club of Fort Collins, in which I was invited to participate.

Why I Support LHL:

"I am a thriving single mom, artist, and educator.  I support LHL because of the strong and fearless women in my life who have mentored me. Living Her Legacy provides that same connection for the community. The women honored in these fine art prints transform into role models and living stories that are relatable and affirm all that is possible when one believes in themselves and embraces their dreams."

Portrait Artistic Process

Rachael has sold several pieces of her work to local businesses and was selected twice to participate in an international juried art show held on the East Coast, where she sold one of her artwork pieces.

Trish Murtha

Role Model-Art Workshop Facilitator/ Portrait Artist

Trish is a watercolor artist joined our team as our second artist June 2017 and is our Role Model/Art Workshop Facilitator/Portrait Artist.

Why I support LHL: When I first talked with Patti Smith about her dream and the mission of Living Her Legacy (LHL), I knew I wanted to be involved in helping her vision.  Previous generations of women, including my own, have become elemental leaders in the growth of their communities-- often finding their stride in spite of barriers they may never know.  LHL is an opportunity to honor these women and to understand their obstacles by weaving their amazing stories in 1) an exciting public art project and 2) a series of bi-lingual books and journals.  However, the most exciting phase of LHL's goals is to offer dynamic mentorship programs for the newest generation of girls on their way to understanding the strength of the women who have gone before them.  I am honored to play a role in all of these endeavors, particularly to offer a curriculum of structured conversations in conjunction with a meaningful collaborative art project. The theme of the artwork is an "Aspen Grove" playing on the theme of the individual trees growing side by side from interconnected roots from which together they sprout new growth. The combination of elements in this team mentoring project fosters tangible relationships between younger and older women who discover how much there is to learn from each other.

Education:  Trish is primarily a self-taught artist but loves the meditative play of watercolor and fluid media.

Artistic Example

Trish’s original paintings are juried into fine art shows and galleries.  The first time she entered a painting into exhibition, she won first place.  Her work is now held in university, private and corporate collections in the United States and overseas.

Belgin Yucelen

Artist/Sculptor

Why I support LHL:  I am a multidisciplinary artist, who created the bronze frames that surround the portrait panels, My intention is to enhance the awareness on the importance of women in the Fort Collins community and evaluate the possibility of art to provoke emotions. The inscription at the bottom of each frame “Woman is Sacred’ in ancient Greek speaks to that goal.

Education:  After many years as an engineer, Belgin followed her passion to art, and further education in Sculpture @ Florence Accademia D’Arte.

I was acquainted with Rachael Davis, and she introduced me to this project.

Sculptor Example

Belgin has shown her work extensively in Colorado, the United States and Internationally.
